Dr Shehnaz Ganai, M.L.C today visited various villages situated along forward areas on LOC, to express her sympathies with the bereaved families who lost their near ones during the recent floods. Today she visited Brari, Gagrian (Sawjian) and the Bravo Post -2 of Rashtriya Rifles. Needless to mention here that a lady and a Jawan of Section 40 of Rashtriya Rifles were washed away at Gagrian, while three persons died in Brari. She gave patient hearing to the people and assured the flood-hit people of all possible help, saying the government is alive to their problems and taking all measures to mitigate them. While interacting with affected people at Gagrian, Brari, she referred to the colossal damage caused to life, property, crops, infrastructure and utility services. She said a massive rehabilitation programme has become imperative. At Bravo post-2, she also interacted with the jawans.“As of now, the priority is relief and rehabilitation of people.  She said putting back life on tracks was being given focus, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself monitoring the relief and rehabilitation measures.

She said health and hygiene is another challenge that is being addressed on an urgent basis to avert diseases. Dr Ganai exhorted the people to be united and meet the challenge by rising above party politics. “The catastrophe has shaken the state and we have to face it unitedly and collectively,” She said. She while interacting with the people said that she is very well aware of the pain and agony the people are going through, you people have lost near ones, your houses have been damaged and your crops have been badly damaged and even washed away, but in this hour of crisis we all need to be united.  She asked the people that Civil Society has to play an active role in reaching to the needy and provide all necessary assistance. She said the people and the administration have to work in tandem to meet the situation. 

She said all resources are required to be pooled to overcome the challenge posed by the natural calamity.She appreciated the role played by the young brigade of the area, in timely rescuing the people from the affected areas, thereby reducing the causality.She asked the District Administration to speed up the process of damage assessment so that the compensation is paid to the people, and also that ex-gratia relief be paid to the next of the kins who lost their loved ones.
