Nayab Singh Saini hits out at Congress for misleading farmers on procurement

Government will procure every grain; strong mandi arrangements in place, says CM

Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini on Friday slammed the Congress and other opposition parties for misleading farmers over crop procurement, asserting that the present government has put in place comprehensive and robust arrangements to ensure a smooth, transparent, and hassle-free procurement process across all mandis.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister said nodal officers have been appointed in every mandi, Additional Chief Secretary-level officers have been assigned district-wise responsibilities, and Ministers, MLAs and senior officers are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience. 

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi was also present on the occasion.Taking a dig at the previous Congress government led by Sh. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Chief Minister, said that during its 10-year rule, governance took a backseat and farmers were left to suffer. 

He alleged that farmers had to wait 3 to 7 days outside mandis to sell their produce, faced shortage of gunny bags, and their crops were often damaged due to rain, forcing them to arrange tarpaulins at their own expense.He further said that Congress should clarify how many warehouses were constructed during its tenure to safeguard crops. 

Procurement deductions, delayed payments and even token compensation of Rs. 2 reflected the insensitivity of the previous regime towards farmers, he said.Asserting the commitment of the present government, the Chief Minister said, We will procure every single grain produced by our farmers. Congress policies were not aimed at public welfare but served limited interests, adding that the party has now lost touch with ground realities, said Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.

Highlighting the Centre’s efforts, he said Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi has worked with a clear focus on the welfare of the poor, ensuring that government schemes reach every village and every household, including those who cannot access government offices.

Mustard and wheat procurement progressing smoothly

The Chief Minister said that mustard procurement has been ongoing in the state since March 28. So far, 16,046 metric tonnes of mustard have arrived in mandis, out of which 3,421 metric tonnes have been procured by government agencies, while the remaining has been purchased by private traders. 

A total of 1,558 metric tonnes has been lifted from mandis.He said that payments amounting to Rs. 4.94 crore have been transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts through DBT at the Minimum Support Price of Rs. 6,200 per quintal.

Similarly, wheat procurement, which began on April 1, has recorded arrivals of 17.37 lakh metric tonnes, out of which 3.92 lakh metric tonnes have been procured so far. He said that lifting operations will gain pace after the rains subside. Payments amounting to Rs. 13.09 crore have been released to farmers through DBT at the MSP of Rs. 2,585 per quintal.

Swift action on crop damage; portal opened for affected farmers

Referring to crop damage due to rains on April 6, 7 and 8, the Chief Minister said reports were received from parts of Fatehabad, Hisar, Sirsa and Kurukshetra districts. He said he has personally spoken to the Deputy Commissioners concerned to assess the situation.

He informed that a portal has been opened for Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts to register crop loss claims, and similar action will be taken for other affected areas.So far, 1,350 farmers have registered crop damage covering 10,088 acres on the portal, including 9 villages in Fatehabad, 10 in Hisar and 2 in Sirsa.

Minimum wages increased by around 35 percent

The Chief Minister said that minimum wages in the state have been revised with effect from April 8. The monthly wages of unskilled workers have been increased from Rs. 11,275 to Rs. 15,220, semi-skilled workers from Rs. 12,430 to Rs. 16,780, skilled workers from Rs. 13,704 to Rs. 18,500, and highly skilled workers from Rs. 14,389 to Rs. 19,425—reflecting an increase of about 35 percent.

Zero tolerance on accountability; bank case handed to CBI

Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said the government is working on a zero-tolerance policy and remains accountable to the public. He said a bank-related matter is under investigation and has been handed over to the CBI, adding that the entire amount involved has already been recovered along with interest.
