Daburji Flyover on Airport–Attari Road in Dangerous Condition; Major Accident Possible Anytime

Former Chairman of the Improvement Trust and senior Congress leader Dinesh Bassi has launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government and the concerned departments over the poor condition of the Golden Gate Daburji flyover. He warned that the flyover has become extremely unsafe and could collapse at any moment, potentially causing a major disaster.
Bassi expressed concern that three MLAs of the ruling party reside in nearby constituencies and likely use this route regularly, yet they have failed to address the deteriorating condition of the flyover. He remarked that their silence raises serious concerns about their commitment to public safety.
He stated that residents of the area have been facing difficulties for several years. During the construction of the flyover, no service lane was built, which caused inconvenience to commuters. Now, even after completion, the structure shows signs of sinking, creating fear and insecurity among the public.
Bassi added that Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla had previously raised the issue and demanded a structurally stronger flyover, but his concerns were ignored. He said that timely action could have prevented the current situation. He alleged that substandard construction was carried out due to a nexus between the contractor company (DMR) and officials, leading to the rapid deterioration of the structure.
He demanded immediate registration of an FIR against the company and responsible officials, along with their arrest and a high-level, impartial investigation. Bassi also urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to intervene and hold both the contractor and the Punjab government accountable.
He emphasized that public funds must not be wasted in this manner. He further pointed out that the service lane beneath the flyover remains closed, with persistent waterlogging and sewage issues. Despite repeated complaints to Project Director Abdullah, no effective action has been taken.
According to Bassi, the situation has become so severe that some residents are being forced to sell their homes and relocate, which clearly reflects administrative failure. During his visit to the site, Bassi inspected the damaged portions of the flyover and highlighted the sunken road and poor construction quality.
He said that the condition of the structure is a clear warning of a possible major accident, yet the authorities continue to ignore the issue. In conclusion, he stated that the condition of the Daburji flyover proves that substandard work has been carried out using public money.
He asserted that until strict action is taken against those responsible, the Congress Party will continue to raise this issue and fight for the rights and safety of the people. On this occasion, local residents including Paramjeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Bhulla Singh, Harjinder Singh, and Davinder Singh also demanded immediate action from the authorities.
