NSS Convention Inaugurated With Focus On Youth Leadership & Community Engagement

250 Participants Including State NSS Officers, Programme Coordinators, Officers, National Awardees & Volunteers Attend Day 1 at Mohali

The State NSS Convention for Punjab and UT Chandigarh commenced today at Mohali's CU Gharuan Campus with enthusiastic participation of around 250 delegates, including State NSS Officers of Punjab and UT Chandigarh, NSS Programme Coordinators, Programme Officers, NSS National Awardees, and selected volunteers from across the region.

The two-day convention is being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through the Regional Directorate of NSS, Chandigarh, with the objective of strengthening the implementation of National Service Scheme (NSS) activities and promoting youth-led community development initiatives aligned with nation-building goals.

The inaugural session was graced by Prerna Puri, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration, as the Chief Guest. Prominent dignitaries present on the occasion included Komal Singh Choudhary, Representative Director, NSS; Kulwinder Singh, Deputy Director, Youth Services, Government of Punjab; Rupinder Kaur; Nemi Chand Golia; Raviraja N. Seetharam; Devinder Singh; and Gagan Deep Singh Baath.

In her inaugural address, the Chief Guest highlighted the transformative role of NSS in shaping socially responsible youth and fostering a spirit of selfless service. She emphasized that NSS serves as a powerful platform for young individuals to actively contribute to nation-building through community engagement, awareness drives, and grassroots initiatives.

She further stressed the need to equip NSS Programme Officers with modern tools, leadership skills, and innovative approaches to effectively guide volunteers in addressing contemporary challenges such as environmental sustainability, public health awareness, and social inclusion. Jai Bhagwan, Regional Director, NSS Regional Directorate Chandigarh, outlined key priorities and ongoing initiatives under NSS. 

He encouraged Programme Officers to adopt innovative, impactful, and community-oriented approaches to enhance outreach and effectiveness. The first day of the convention featured interactive sessions and deliberations focusing on strengthening NSS programme implementation, enhancing community participation, and sharing best practices among participating institutions.

Senior officials welcomed the delegates and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing NSS activities and empowering youth for meaningful societal contribution. The convention will continue tomorrow with further sessions aimed at reinforcing the role of NSS in nation-building and youth empowerment.
