Punjab Public Works Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO today gave a major gift to the Jandiala Guru Assembly constituency by laying the foundation stone of a new 66 KV sub-station at village Gaddli (Block Jandiala Guru). While laying the foundation stone, the Minister said that the project will cost approximately ₹6 crore.

He stated that people in the area had long been demanding a nearby sub-station, as the existing one was far away, causing frequent power supply issues. With this project, the long-pending demand will be fulfilled and power supply will significantly improve.

He further said that a 66/11 KV, 20 MVA power transformer will be installed at the new sub-station. This will ensure uninterrupted and improved electricity supply to consumers in villages Gaddli, Bhangwan, Malowal, Ranakala, Balia, Bamma, and Khalehra.

Around 20,000 consumers will directly benefit, while approximately 50,000 more will benefit indirectly due to reduced load on existing sub-stations. The Minister also announced that a sports ground will be developed in village Gaddli at a cost of ₹27.10 lakh. The ground will include modern facilities such as chain-link fencing, separate ladies’ and gents’ bathrooms, high mast lights, footlights, a sprinkler system, and a volleyball court, encouraging youth participation in sports.

He added that under other development initiatives, the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will construct a new bridge over the Devidas Pura drain on the Khujala-Gehri to Gaddli road, consisting of two spans (20 meters each), at a cost of ₹231.54 lakh.

The Minister informed that the work will be carried out under Head 5054 RB-10 (Bridges). The tender process is underway and the project will begin immediately after allocation. This bridge will improve connectivity and provide relief to local residents. He directed officials to complete all works on time and maintain quality standards.

He further highlighted that large-scale work has been undertaken to strengthen the power supply in Jandiala Guru constituency. These include installation and augmentation of 820 new transformers at a cost of ₹24.60 crore, replacement of 5,591 damaged transformers costing ₹28.99 crore, and de-loading/bifurcation of 14 feeders with new breakers at a cost of ₹1.42 crore.

Additionally, 81 new 11 KV lines have been constructed at a cost of ₹4.49 crore, and ₹2.64 crore has been spent on 86 different works to improve power systems and cables. To ensure better power supply in Jandiala Guru city, two mobile transformer trolleys have also been provided.

A parallel circuit has been started at the 66 KV sub-station Manawala, while transformer capacity at the 66 KV Focal Point sub-station has been increased from 12.5 MVA to 20 MVA. A new 12.5 MVA transformer has been installed at the 132 KV Tangra sub-station, and further upgrades are ongoing.

A new Consumer Care Center has been built in Jandiala Guru, and a proposal has been prepared for renovation of the complaint center at Balmik Chowk. Additionally, the upgradation of the 66 KV sub-station Nawapind to 220 KV is in progress. New power houses are being constructed at Dasmesh Nagar and Gaddli, and a proposal for a 220 KV sub-station in Jandiala Guru has also been prepared.

Overall, approximately ₹154.82 crore is being spent on these electricity-related development works. The Minister also stated that residents of Jandiala Guru constituency are benefiting greatly from the Punjab Government’s free electricity scheme. Out of 62,972 total electricity connections, 60,302 (around 95%) are receiving zero bills.

Under this scheme, approximately ₹14.47 crore worth of electricity bills are waived every month, totaling about ₹173.64 crore annually. From April 1, 2022, to February 28, 2026, electricity bills worth approximately ₹681.33 crore have been waived for residents of the constituency, providing significant financial relief to households.
