Haryana Development and Panchayat Minister, Sh. Krishan Lal Panwar said that the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar has two units of 2×300 MW capacity, and its ash handling system is functioning smoothly. The Development and Panchayat Minister was responding to a question raised during the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today.

He informed that a village located near the Panipat plant is adjacent to Shree Cement and the ash dyke, due to which the issue of ash falling in the area has been reported. Keeping this in view, the process to shift that village has been initiated. Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister, Sh.Nayab Singh Saini, he said that 407 plots will be allotted in a programme to be on March 7, 2026, where the affected families will be relocated.

The Development and Panchayat Minister further informed that the distance between the ash dyke and Ratanpura village in Yamunanagar is around 8 kilometres. The ash generated from the plant is mixed with water and disposed of in the ash dump; therefore, there is no proposal to shift this village.

He said that there has been no confirmation of any disease spreading in Ratanpura village due to ash. In this regard, a community survey was conducted to assess the village’s social and population profile, health-related symptoms or complaints among residents, types of deaths reported in the last three to four years due to various causes, and the possible health impact of the Yamunanagar thermal power plant.

The survey was conducted by a team of community medicine specialists, the Medical Officer In-Charge of Primary Health Centre Sabapur, the Community Health Officer, and Multipurpose Health Workers. Sh. Panwar also informed that a committee of technical engineers will be constituted to study the management of ash generated from the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar and other related technical aspects.

The committee will also visit Ratanpura village to review the situation.
