Major relief to Zirakpur residents from stray dogs

MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa today formally launched a dog sterilization drive in the Zirakpur Municipal Council area, targeting the sterilization of around 2,000 stray dogs. Divulging details, MLA Randhawa said that residents of Zirakpur had been demanding sterilization due to the increasing stray dog population and related concerns. 

To address this issue, a sterilization project worth Rs 39.46 lakh has been approved and formally launched with the establishment of a sterilization centre capable of housing 100 dogs at a time. Each dog will be kept under observation after the procedure and released only after being declared physically fit.

He further informed that a proposal for a dog sanctuary to house stray dogs has also been submitted to the state government. The proposed project is estimated to cost Rs 39.46 lakh.

MLA Randhawa also kickstarted the installation of a new tubewell in village Chhatt, now part of MC Zirakpur, at a cost of Rs 40.53 lakh. In addition, work on laying drainage and tiles from the Bank of Baroda ATM point in village Chhatt has begun at an estimated cost of Rs 49.50 lakh.

On the occasion, the MLA flagged off four new grab bucket machines for cleaning sewerage manholes in the city, which are expected to help address sewer line choking and improve sanitation services. These machine has been procured at a cost of Rs 47 lakh.

EO MC Parvinder Singh Bhatti, councillors and other officials were also present during the event.
