Punjab’s Bhagwant Singh Mann Government has placed quality education and health services at the centre stage of governance, which were neglected during previous regimes, said Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh here today. Kickstarting the Students’ Enrolment Drive at Government Primary School, Phase-2, Mohali, the MLA said that since the present government initiated wide-ranging reforms in both educational infrastructure and academics, nearly 79,000 students across the state have opted for government schools over private institutions.
He added that this number is increasing with each passing year. MLA Kulwant Singh said that the upgradation of infrastructure and the construction of new buildings under the Schools of Eminence project have significantly changed the mindset of parents towards government schools.
“These schools are now fully equipped with facilities at par with private schools. Parent-Teacher Meetings have also yielded highly encouraging feedback, further strengthening the reform process,” he added. Highlighting key achievements, the MLA said that the construction of around 10,900 classrooms, recruitment of over 10,000 teachers, provision of Wi-Fi connectivity, deployment of security guards, campus managers and sanitary workers, construction of modern washrooms, and coaching facilities for engineering and medical entrance examinations are all part of the continuous improvement in government schools.
He further said that similar transformative steps have been taken in the health sector, including the establishment of Aam Aadmi Clinics, implementation of Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, and setting up of super-specialty hospitals across the state. Appealing to parents, MLA Kulwant Singh urged them to enroll their children in government schools to avail quality education and reduce the financial burden of expensive private schooling.
District Education Officer (Elementary) Darshanjit Singh and District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr. Ginni Duggal were also present on the occasion.
