District Administration SAS Nagar Celebrates Lohri of 51 Newborn Daughters

The District Administration, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Komal Mittal, celebrated the Lohri festival of 51 newly born baby girls to spread the message of gender equality and to promote the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign.

The event was organized in a traditional manner with the lighting of a Lohri bonfire, symbolizing warmth, prosperity and happiness, where families and officials offered prayers for the bright future of the newborn daughters at District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar, Mohali.

On this occasion, the mothers of the babies were felicitated with gifts and sweets on behalf of the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab.While extending heartfelt congratulations to the mothers and families, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that there is no discrimination between boys and girls in today’s progressive society, as girls are excelling in every field. 

She recalled that there was a time when the birth of daughters was not celebrated, but now daughters are welcomed with great enthusiasm and pride.She further said that the recent Cricket World Cup victory, achieved with the contribution of several players of Punjab origin, reflects how dedication and opportunity can help young talent reach global heights, and this should inspire parents to nurture their daughters with confidence.

Congratulating the families and the women staff of the District Administration present on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner urged parents to provide equal opportunities, education and freedom of decision-making to girls so that they can achieve new milestones in life.

ADC (General) Ms. Geetika Singh, ADC (Development) Ms. Sonam Chaudhary, SDM Kharar Ms. Divya P., Assistant Commissioner (General) Ms. Ankita Kansal, District Programme Officer Mr. Nikhil Arora and other officers were also present during the celebration.
