Sandalwood smugglers' gang busted in Haryana

Haryana Police Saturday claimed to have busted a gang engaged in sandalwood smuggling with the arrest of five gang members and the recovery of 250 logs of sandalwood.A police spokesman said the sandalwood recovered was worth crores of rupees.The sandalwood was recovered from a premises in Sisana village in Sonipat district, 190 km from here.Police also recovered 245 boxes of liquor with duplicate labels.Four of the arrested men are residents of Haryana while one is from Nepal."Police got a tip that sandalwood in a large quantity was stored at the residence of Jitender in Sisana. Acting swiftly, police raided the place and arrested all the five accused and recovered the sandalwood and illegal liquor," the spokesman said.During interrogation, the accused revealed that the liquor was sold at high prices by putting costly labels on cheap bottles.
