MLA Kulwant Singh today visited Phase-11, Mohali, to meet the people staging a protest, including riot victims and shopkeepers. Interacting with media, he said that the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued directions that illegal constructions in Mohali be demolished in accordance with the existing GMADA policy.
He categorically clarified that these orders are neither issued by the Aam Aadmi Party nor by the Punjab Government. “Certain representatives of opposition parties are reaching the protest site to gain political mileage and are misleading the people regarding the orders of the Hon’ble Court,” he said.
He added that the role of the government is to frame laws for public welfare and to ensure overall development. Addressing the gathering, MLA Kulwant Singh said that all those present are educated and aware, and they understand that the government has no role in this action, as it is being carried out strictly under the directions of the Hon’ble Court.
Referring to the Need-Based Policy, he said that the policy was formulated in 2011 jointly by N.K. Sharma and himself and had also been implemented. However, he acknowledged that the affected people failed to submit applications, pay the prescribed government fees, or file claims within the stipulated time, due to which the policy lapsed. As a result, people are facing difficulties today.
He assured the protestors that he is still making every possible effort to have the Need-Based Policy implemented again. “I will bring this matter to the notice of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and will certainly try to get it implemented within the legal framework,” he said. He urged the public not to fall prey to the misleading statements of political elements.
MLA Kulwant Singh further stated that when a matter goes to court, its resolution also lies with the Hon’ble Court, and the people’s interests will be properly represented there.
