Election Observer for S.A.S. Nagar Holds Meeting with DC, SSP and Other Officials Regarding Panchayat Samiti Elections

The Election Observer appointed by the Punjab State Election Commission for the smooth conduct of Panchayat Samiti elections in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, Ms Amrit Singh, IAS, Director, Employment Generation and Training Department, Punjab, today held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, ADC (Rural Development) Sonam Choudhary and other officials to ensure that the Panchayat Samiti elections in the district are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
She said that the district administration and police must ensure that voters are able to elect their representatives without any fear or inducement. Issuing a contact number and email ID for lodging complaints in case of any violation, she informed that any person may file a complaint at mobile number 62397-34578 or email Liaisonofficergram2025@gmail.com. In addition, complaints addressed to the Election Observer may also be submitted in Room No. 257, First Floor, District Administrative Complex, Mohali.
She assured that immediate action will be taken to maintain the transparency and fairness of the election process. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal informed that the nomination process is underway for 22 zones of Panchayat Samiti Dera Bassi, 15 zones of Panchayat Samiti Kharar and 15 zones of Panchayat Samiti Majri, the last date for which is December 4. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out on December 5, while withdrawal of nominations will be allowed on December 6, 2025.
The timing for filing, scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers has been fixed from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the designated offices of the respective Returning Officers. Polling will be held on December 14, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and counting will take place on December 17. Training of polling parties will be conducted on December 8, 10 and 13.
She further said that voting will be conducted through ballot papers, and to ensure transparency of the entire polling process, videography will be done, including on the counting day. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans briefed the Election Observer about the ‘pre-poll’ and ‘poll-day’ security arrangements and assured that district police will not allow anyone to create fear or offer inducements to voters.
Strict surveillance and robust security arrangements will be ensured during the polling process. The Election Observer stressed that the entire election process must be carried out with complete impartiality, and conditions should remain equal for all candidates so that there is no violation of the election model code of conduct laid down by the Punjab State Election Commission. She appealed to voters and all political parties to maintain harmony and law & order during the Panchayat Samiti elections to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.
