Haryana Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Gaurav Gautam, said that Haryana’s sports policy has today emerged as a model for the entire country. The state government is working with full commitment to provide world-class facilities, safe playgrounds, and quality sports equipment to athletes. Expressing deep concern over the recent tragic deaths of two players in the state, he said that the Sports Department has taken strict and concrete steps to ensure that no such unfortunate incidents occur in the future.
The Sports Minister was chairing a review meeting with departmental officers at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula today. He said that a special amount of Rs. 114 crore has already been released for the repair, upgradation, and redevelopment of stadiums and playgrounds across the state.
In addition, a major portion of the funds available with the District Sports Councils (DSE) will be used to extensively renovate the grounds using district-level resources. He assured that visible and meaningful results of these efforts will be seen within the next three months.
He directed officers to immediately conduct a joint inspection of all playgrounds, stadiums, and sports equipment falling under Panchayats, Municipal Committees, Municipal Councils, and HUDA, and submit a detailed report to the headquarters. Based on these reports, improvements will be carried out by the concerned departments in a time-bound manner.
He made it clear that players will not be allowed to practice in any stadium or building that is found to be unsafe or in a dilapidated condition. In case of any negligence, action will be taken against the concerned District Sports Officer.
The Minister said that for a scientific assessment of sports infrastructure in the state, playgrounds and stadiums will be classified into A, B, C, and D categories. A-category grounds will be excellent, safe, and ready for immediate use.
B-category grounds will be in usable condition. C-category grounds will be fit for use only after repairs, while D-category facilities will be completely restricted and not permitted for use under any circumstances. He further said that along with upgrading facilities, responsibility and accountability of officers are also being fixed. Fake sports nurseries will be completely banned.
Sh. Gaurav Gautam said that he will personally monitor the entire process on a regular basis and conduct periodic progress reviews. He expressed confidence that these firm measures will not only strengthen sports infrastructure but also provide athletes with a safer and better environment for training.
Director, Sports Department, Sh. Sanjeev Verma, Additional Director, Sh. Ashwani Malik, zonal Deputy Directors, and district officers were also present during the meeting.
