Accusing College authorities of being extremely harsh towards them, the students of SSM college of Engineering and technology, department computer Science currently in 7th semester Monday during a protest march in Srinagar said that they were forced to sign an undertaking regarding the completion of their syllabi. “We have completed only 30 percent of our syllabi, but the undertaking on which College management took our signatures forcibly claims that the students have completed their syllabi in stipulated time,” the students said alleging that SSM College management is resorting to fraud and cheating.

Large number of SSM College students who assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar told CNS that they were supposed to complete their degrees by August-2014 but till date they have not even completed their 7th semester. They said they showed reluctance in signing the undertaking and it invited the wrath of the College management. “College authorities in a bid to teach us a lesson first of all didn’t issue forms for us and when it did that was with the condition that we have to pay late fee, summing up to around Rs. 1500 per student (Rs 1,48,500). The irony that College Head Qazi Dilafroz lied to us that they are collecting late fee on the instruction of Kashmir University while the Controller KU feigned ignorance about the college decision and informed us that students aren’t supposed to pay any late fee,” the students told CNS adding that Kashmir University took SSM college management to task  and reprimanded it for grabbing ‘illegal’ fee from the students.

The students said that on the intervention of Vice Chancellor Kashmir University, they finally completed their syllabi and were relieved from the semester on August 25 last month.“Succumbing to the pressure exerted by Kashmir University, College management finally accepted our forms on August 28. However, the College Head Dil Afraz Qazi again shoed grudge towards us  and issued a Date Sheet for the internal examination on August 28 at 3 pm which stated that our examination would be conducted on August 30. We were shocked to see the date sheet. How come it was possible for us to prepare ourselves for the examination in two days. Isn’t it irony that we completed our semester on August 28 and were asked to appear in the examination on August 30. Besides this exam was specially meant for us as the College managed kept the other three branches of our semester aloof from this examination. It clearly indicated that College authorities were angry towards us as we had move to Kashmir University for the redressal of our problems,” they said.

The students said that after their massive protest along with their parents, the College management finally came round to their views. “The dogmatic approach displayed by College head who is acting as Vice Chairperson of the College and the Head of Department has ruined our careers. We demanded resignation from the HOD after she accused us of playing a game with her. “You played a game with me and now I will play a game with you,” the students quoting HOD told CNS adding that the College head is acting on her own while her lawyer is threatening them off and on.The lawyer of the College Head who remains always present in the room whenever we meet Dil Afroz Qazi always tell us that it is the private college and the property of Dil Afroz and she can do anything whatever she likes.

They said that they have apprehensions that SSM College management may resort to other means to destroy their careers. “We have still one semester to go and we appeal Kashmir University officials especially Vice Chancellor and Controller Examinations who always supported us to decide about our examination and not give any opportunity to the College Head to play game with us,” they said.SSM College head Qazi Dil Afroz told CNS that the boys who are complaining against the College are not the students of SSM College. “Some external forces are trying to defame our college and my name as well. Our students are busy in preparing themselves for the examination and they have no time to raise such issues,” she said adding that neither the college demanded late fee from the students nor any of her lawyer was ever present in the College.
