Maharashtra Govt Plans Holistic Development of Fisheries Sector

A high-level meeting on the comprehensive development of the fisheries sector in Maharashtra was held today at Varsha residence under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.The meeting was attended by Minister Pankaja Munde, Minister Jayakumar Gore, Minister Nitesh Rane, and senior officials.
During the discussions, CM Fadnavis underlined that the fisheries and animal husbandry sectors hold vast potential for economic growth and serve as the primary source of livelihood for millions of families in rural and coastal regions.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive state-level policy to ensure sustainable growth and improved opportunities in the sector. To strengthen planning and execution, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of a ‘Vision Management Unit’ for the fisheries sector.
He further noted that women’s participation will play a pivotal role in steering Maharashtra towards the goal of becoming a developed economy by 2047. The Vision Document, prepared with contributions from experts, officials, and local stakeholders, was acknowledged as a crucial roadmap for the sector’s growth.
CM Fadnavis stressed that the allocation of adequate financial resources is essential to accelerate the development of the fisheries business and boost the rural economy.
