Srinagar 26-Aug-2014

Expressing deep concern on the relentlessincidents of ceasefire violations on the Line of Control and International Border with Pakistan, which have almost become a permanent feature after the taking over of NDA Government, causing untold hardships to people of entire border belt, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that NDA Government has been completely unsuccessful in fulfilling its promise to the people of the State and country to respond effectively to the ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

According to a statement issued to KNS, describing the persistent violations of ceasefire on the border as an unmitigated disaster, Azad said since NDAs coming to power, numerous jawans of security forces have laid down their lives and a number of civilians have been killed and injured, with no end in sight to the fire round of hostilities which started from the day NDA Government came to power in New Delhi.Azad expressed worries over the disturbing and unsavoury media reports emanating from the border areas with people under compelling circumstances thinking to ift to more peaceful areas on account of failure of NDA Government to put an end to continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

“I am deeply pained at the miserable plight of our people living in border areas, who are living under constant fear with clouds of uncertainty looming over the horizons”, said  Azad, adding that the scope and magnitude of ceasefire violations is rather increasing with each passing day, ever since NDA Government has come to power.

Azad said that the vapid and uninspiring propaganda of the BJP has got exposed by its failure to force Pakistan halt its hostile policies which are adversely affecting the lives of our brave people living along the border area, adding further that the raw muscularity BJP continued to propagate sincethe Parliament Elections to misguide and exploit the people of the country and Jammu & Kashmir, has actually become a permanent source of hardship and inconvenience for the people of border belt.He further said that normal activities like farming, schooling of children, medicare to sick and old, etc have become a big casualty owing to the prevailing tensions and all responsibility for this lies on the NDA Government.

“I want to remind the BJP and its leadership that people of the State are wise enough to see through their tantrums and will not get perpetually be-fooled by their double-speak. On the one hand BJP makes rill and jingoistic noises within the country and on the other hand, sends emissaries like Ved Pratap Vedik to Pakistan to hobnob with hardcore anti-India elements like Hafiz Sayed”, said  Azad, adding that BJP’s double-speak has been fully exposed before the people.

Azad said that border people have always suffered during the BJP rule be it Kargil war of 1999, border build-up of 2001, or the current spate of relentless ceasefire violations, adding that following massive build-up of 2001, it took many years to UPA Government at the Centre and Congress-PDP Government in the State to restore normalcy in the border belt.“I still remember how as Chief Minister I had to struggle to restore normalcy and alleviate the difficulties of the people on the borders, as land-mines were laid out on vast swathes of land area adjoining the borders after the massive build-up of 2001 under NDA Government”, said  Azad.

Asking the BJP to take first lessons in understanding the difference between “raw muscularity” and “successful diplomacy”,  Azad said that during UPA Government’s tenure life on the borders was most peaceful and tranquil, Which brought huge respite for the people living there.Lamenting that NDA Government has no foreign policy towards Pakistan marked as it is by flip-flops of monumental nature, amply demonstrated in Prime Minister’s diametrically opposite speeches delivered within a gap of three days about Pakistan, one at Kargil on 12th August and other at New Delhi from the ramparts of Red Fort on 15th August,  Azad said that lack of Pakistan policy has caused untold sufferings to the people of our State.

Counting the inconsistencies of the NDA Government’s Pakistan Policy,  Azad further said that BJP leadership promised a forceful response to Pakistan and China during elections and soon after the election results forgot the promise only to lay red carpet to Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharief even before the taking of oath and then, overzealously tried to court Pakistan by exchanging Sarees and awls, and surprisingly, within one month the same leadership is crazy to raise war cries.

Azad lamented that with no vision of its own; NDA Government has made foreign policy priorities and peace on borders of Jammu and Kashmir subservient to its electoral politics which is why flip-flops are conspicuously visible in the Pakistan policy of NDA Government, maintaining that it is akin to playing with fire.Asserting that every citizen of the country and State deserves what has been promised by the BJP,  Azad said that instead of fulfilling its electoral promises of acting very strongly against Pakistan for the incessant ceasefire violations, NDA Government has only made ceasefire violations endemic to the border belt of J&K.

Coming down heavily on the NDA and BJP for its unfounded and uncalled for criticism of UPA Government,  Azad said that if UPA Government was “weak” as BJP leaders used to pontificate, current NDA Government will be rated as weakest for its utter failure to check ceasefire violations.Urging the people not to get bamboozled by the lip sympathies of the BJP and its Government,  Azad said that their motivated visits are not going to sway the people of the State as they can differentiate between cosmetic visits and policies driven by belongingness.  (KNS)
