Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant Inaugurate Council of Lawyers Brochure

In the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the official brochure of the Council of Lawyers was formally launched at the Punjab and Haryana High Court premises. 

On this occasion, Justice Surya Kant praised the Council’s flagship initiative “200 Hours in Indian Villages”, recognizing it as a meaningful step toward legal awareness and civic engagement at the grassroots level.

Advocate Vasu Ranjan Shandilya, Chairman of the Council of Lawyers, stated that the Council is committed to delivering free legal aid across India, especially in rural and underprivileged regions, with utmost dedication. 

Under this flagship program, Council members will visit 200 different villages across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and other states every month to provide free legal consultation, aiming to reduce the burden on courts by resolving disputes locally.

He also acknowledged the continuous support of Justice Ritu Bahri, Patron-in-Chief of the Council and former Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand and Punjab & Haryana High Courts, in advancing this mission. Advocate Shandilya emphasized that in the coming times, the Council is poised to establish new milestones in North India.

Prominent office bearers present at the event included:

President Eashan Bhardwaj, Secretary Lakshay Goyal, National Coordinator Abhishek Malhotra, Coordinator Jashan Chopra, Secretary Sanchi Bindra, Vice President Gautam Bhardwaj, Vice President Jitendrer Kansal, National In-charge Karanveer Lal, and other dignitaries.

Advocate Shandilya also shared that as part of the initiative, monthly meetings will be held with village Sarpanches, enabling open dialogue between legal professionals and local leaders. This transparent process aims to address public grievances, resolve disputes on-site, and reduce the load on the judiciary. He added that the program goes beyond legal aid it empowers citizens by educating them on their constitutional rights, legal procedures, and government welfare schemes.

“Our goal is to ensure justice reaches every home free of bias or greed, with accurate legal advice while restoring people’s faith in the justice system,” said Shandilya. He appealed to lawyers, NGOs, social workers, and local leaders across the country to join this noble cause, stating, “This is not just a legal service, but a collaborative movement to build bridges of justice, dignity, and trust in rural India.”

The Council of Lawyers also extended sincere gratitude to President of the Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association, Sartej Singh Narula, and Secretary Gagandeep Jammu for their valuable support in the launch of the brochure.
