Car carrying arms, ammunition seized in Bandipora

The army and police on Thursday said they recovered huge arms and ammunition from a car in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.A police official told GNS that today at around 3:00 am, the government forces including Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and army's 5 Para battalion, recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a Maruti car (JK01H 710) at a check post near Fazalpura Bridge.The official said the man who was inside the car managed to flee taking advantage of the dark. “The search is on to trace the man,” he said, adding the further investigations are being carried out.

An army official said that the recoveries include: “7 AK-47 rifles, 15 AK magazines, 316 AK rounds, five Chinese pistols, 13 Chinese pistol rounds, 20 Chinese grenades, an under-barrel rocket launcher ( UBRL) and 74 UBGL shells.”The forces also displayed the arms and ammunition Sunarwani camp.Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Shafi told reporters that most probably, the car laden with the ammunition was being taken to Sopore. “Due to requirement, the car might have been on its way to the Sopore area,” he said, adding the man who was driving the car took advantage of darkness and managed to escape.The SP said that these elements would try to disrupt upcoming polls in the state. “But, we are ready to face them,” he added.
