Claiming that some national conference leaders would be involved in disallowing the unfurling of the tricolor at Kargil on August 15, Asgar Karbalai Sunday remarked that the matter has taken up seriously with the government.Talking to KNS, Karbalai, congress leader and chief executive councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil stated that from the last five years, the elected counselors in the region had been unfurling the tricolor at Tehsil and sub-district hospitals of Kargil as they have the status of the minister and are the elected representatives of the people of the region. Karbalai added that on August 11, they had issued the notification that the tricolor would be unfurled at Tehsil and Sub- district headquarters by the elected councilors. “During the night of August 14, there is a fax being received from General Administrative Department (GAD) followed with the telephone call that flags will be unfurled by the SDMs and tehsildars. It is ironical that when from the last five years, this practice was the routine and abruptly the government order comes a day before- disallowing us sans any reason.”
He stated that he has written to the chief minister Omar Abdullah asking him the reason behind the government order. He added that it is condemnable act of the state authorities that the elected representatives are being undermined while as government officers are allowed to replace them.He accused that there must be the hand of some NC leaders in foiling the event as their ‘vested interests’ are involved in the same. “I have appraised state Congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad over the incident and I have seriously pursuing the mater,” Karbalai said. However, when contacted secretary GAD Ashraf Bukhari refused to comment over the issue- maintaining that he is not ‘authorized’ person to speak over the issue.
