In a significant breakthrough, Sangrur Police have exposed a drug smuggling racket operating from within the district jail. During a search operation, mobile phones were recovered, leading to the disclosure of the racket. The police seized 4 kg of heroin/chitta, Rs 5,50,000 in drug money, a Glock 9mm pistol, and 2 live cartridges.

According to SSP Sangrur, Mr. Sartaj Singh Chahal, the police team, led by DSP (Detective) Mr. Daljit Singh Virk, recovered contraband during a search operation in the jail last month. A case was registered against 8 accused under the NDPS Act and Prison Act.Further investigation led to the arrest of additional suspects, including a Class-IV employee, and the recovery of incriminating evidence. 

The police are working to dismantle the entire network involved in the drug smuggling racket. Recovered Items include 4 kg heroin/chitta, Rs 5,50,000 in drug money, 1 Glock 9mm pistol, 2 live cartridges, Mobile phones, smartwatches, and other accessories.He confirmed that the accused have previous criminal records, and the police are investigating their involvement in other cases.
