Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today gave a five-point program to councillors with the goal of making Ambala Cantonment the best city in Haryana. Under this program, councillors are required to focus thoroughly on five key areas in their respective wards: electricity, water, drainage, roads and cleanliness, so that Ambala Cantonment can become a model city comparable to those abroad.
Sh. Vij addressed workers and the public in wards 21, 24, and 17 as part of a “Parivar Milan” (Family Gathering) program. He also visited wards 25, 18, 19, and 7, and mentioned that similar events will be held in other wards as well.
"Each councillor must personally go to their ward in the evening and assess what work needs to be done" – Vij
During the program, he said, "I have come today to give my councillors a five-point program which includes electricity, water, drainage, roads, and cleanliness. Each councillor must inspect their ward in the evenings to identify issues and work with employees to resolve them.
For instance, if a streetlight isn't working, it must be fixed. Although I have already installed 15,000 lights in the city, it’s the councillor’s duty to ensure malfunctioning lights are repaired."
"All councillors will personally visit their wards and address public grievances" – Vij
He emphasized that councillors must review whether clean water is reaching every household. He criticized the practice of merely driving around without addressing the real issues, saying, “You must not let people run behind you for electricity or water solutions—get the work done.” Councillors are expected to personally inspect issues such as non-functional tube lights, hanging wires, or leaning electric poles and coordinate repairs.
"Employees must get the councillor’s signature on work completion or they will not be paid" – Vij
He added that "I don't want to see even a single dirty street in any ward. I will soon hold meetings with officials to ensure every councillor has a support staff. All employees will have to get the councillor's signature after completing their duties. Even the street cleaners must get signatures; otherwise, their salary will be withheld."
"Councillors are responsible for getting the work done, and if someone doesn’t, Anil Vij is here" – Vij
Sh. Vij said he wants every citizen to have proper roads and access to their homes. He acknowledged that roads get damaged but stressed it’s the councillor’s duty to fix them. “It’s the councillor’s responsibility to ensure work is done. And if someone fails, I, Anil Vij, am here to act.”
He clarified that he was there to help councillors understand their duties. While councillors also handle tasks like issuing birth and other certificates or resolving disputes, today’s focus was on the five-point program to beautify the wards and city.
"A special team will be formed to evaluate these five areas in each ward every two months”– Vij
He said that a team will soon be formed to evaluate the five-point program in every councillor's ward every two months. Each area of focus will be graded out of 10, making a total of 50 points. The assessment results will be shared publicly with workers, and councillors will be ranked accordingly. If a ward is found to be dirty, points will be deducted.
He added that councillors' families and active party workers can also contribute, and encouraged them to take ownership. “If we successfully implement this five-point program, our city will become the top-ranked in Haryana.”
He noted that while large-scale development work is already underway, the beauty and cleanliness of the city will be defined by this five-point effort.
"I am visiting all wards to thank the families and close friends who played a key role during elections"
Sh.Vij said he is visiting all wards to meet families and supporters who contributed during elections. “We had decided during the elections that only family members and active workers would be involved, and they essentially won the elections without contesting. That’s why we’ve gathered everyone today.”
He added that Ambala Cantonment voters know him and support him based on his work. He concluded by stating that while many just deliver speeches, it is the party workers who drive development. “People know the work I’ve done.
We’ve earned this victory because the public trusts that we are the ones who get things done. Many issues have already been resolved, and the rest are being addressed, he added.”
