Punjab Reports Bumper Wheat Crop; 124 LMT to Be Contributed to Central Pool : Lal Chand Kataruchak

The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak has said that Punjab has witnessed bumper crop of wheat this season and the State would contribute 124 LMT wheat in Central pool this time. While taking stock of the wheat procurement at Moga Anaj Mandi, the Minister said that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has already directed the DCs to investigate the damage to the crops owing to hailstorm, short circuit and rains and the State Government would make good the losses incurred by the farmers.
Divulging more, Mr. Kataruchak added that till now, 49 Lakh Metric Tonnes of wheat has arrived in the mandis of Punjab out of which 44.50 LMT has been procured. Also, payments worth Rs. 5573 Crore have been credited into the accounts of the farmers. The procurement is going on smoothly in the 1864 mandis of the State and till now 1.5 Lakh farmers have brought their produce to the mandis.
The Punjab Government has revised the wage rates in respect of the labourers engaged in loading work in the mandis which has brought them financial benefits worth Rs. 10 crore, further added the Minister. Expressing satisfaction at the seamless and hassle free procurement going on in the mandis, Mr. Kataruchak disclosed that concerned officials have been directed to ensure adequate bardana, tarpaulins and crates in the mandis so as to safeguard the crops in case of inclement weather.
The lifting too has picked up speed and furthermore, CCL to the tune of Rs. 28894 Crore has been received by the State Government and payments are being made within the stipulated 24 hours time frame. It is noteworthy that in the mandis of Moga District, till now 266442 LMT Wheat has arrived out of which 202997 has been procured with payments of Rs. 270.79 Crores credited into the accounts of the farmers.
Among others present on the occasion included the MLAs Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, Devinderjit Singh Laadi Dhos and Manjit Singh Bilaspur.
