A delegation comprising BJP State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, and all BJP Councillors met Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria today at Raj Bhavan. The meeting focused on the demand to roll back the recently increased property tax on both residential and commercial properties in Chandigarh.

The delegation submitted a memorandum urging the UT Administrator to withdraw the hike, stating that the increased tax has placed an additional financial burden on both residents and traders. They emphasized the need to reconsider the hike and make the system more practical and citizen-friendly.

State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra said that the BJP is committed to safeguarding the interests of Chandigarh residents and strongly urged the Administrator to withdraw the revised tax structure. He added that the hike does not align with the current needs and circumstances of the city’s population.

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla stated that the issue had been raised multiple times within the Municipal Corporation, and today the party formally presented the collective concern before the Administrator. BJP Vice Presidents Ramveer Bhatti and Raj Kishore were also part of the delegation and reiterated the demand for immediate relief by revoking the increased rates.

UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria gave the delegation a patient hearing, welcomed their suggestions, and assured them that the matter would be given serious consideration with appropriate consultations within the concerned departments.
