Taken effective steps to strengthen road safety in Haryana : Anil Vij

Haryana Energy, Labour and Transport Minister Anil Vij said several effective steps have been taken to reduce road accidents and strengthen road safety in the state.He was responding to a non-official resolution presented by MLA Smt. Geeta Bhukkal in the Assembly today, demanding a policy to ensure safe and smooth travel to prevent loss of human resources and disability due to road accidents.

Sh. Anil Vij informed that Intelligent Traffic Management System has been implemented, under which CCTV cameras have been installed for traffic monitoring in 12 districts. Road safety awareness campaign is also being run. 

Free cashless treatment scheme has been implemented for accident victims under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Under this scheme, free treatment up to Rs 1.50 lakh per person per accident is given for a maximum of seven days.

He informed that speed detection cameras have been installed to control speeding and 62 interceptor vehicles are being used to prevent over-speeding. Efforts are on to improve road safety initiatives through technology and accident data analysis. 

The State Transport Department has constituted a committee to analyse each accident involving Haryana Roadways buses and reduce their rate. The Transport Minister further informed that to reduce deaths and injuries due to road accidents, the state government had formulated the Haryana Road Safety Policy in 2016. 

The aim of this policy is to ensure safe travel for all road users. Apart from this, four driving, training and research institutes are functioning in collaboration with reputed automobile manufacturers. 

The Transport Minister also informed that a meeting of representatives of various states was held on January 7 in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Sh. Nitin Gadkari, in which he also participated. 

In this meeting, issues of road accidents and transport reform were discussed in detail. He said the main cause of road accidents is human error, in which excessive fatigue of drivers is a big problem. In this meeting, he suggested that rest houses should be built on the roadside for drivers and passengers.

Sh. Anil Vij invited all the members of the Assembly to come to his office to give suggestions on this serious issue. He said human life is very important and strict laws should be made for those who break the rules. He also ensured that black spots have been marked and the government is committed to save the life of every person.
