Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, Thursday, said the political interference in Tangmarg constituency has adversely affected the economic potential of this richly endowed area.

According to a statement issued to KNS, addressing a well-attended public gathering, at Serdhangerpora in Tanmarg constituency, he said the area is suffering from huge representation deficit. He said people of this constituency will have to take an initiative to restore their dignity, as their present representative has made every attempt to compromise it for his peculiar political interests.Appealing the people to empower Mohammad Abbas Wani, the PDP candidate, in next elections, Akhtar said the right thinking people of Tangmarg alone can retrieve the situation and script a bright future for themselves. He said Abbas has been given the party’s ticket keeping in view his loyalty to the party, his belief in its manifesto, his modesty and ground level contacts with the ordinary people. Akhtar said the party will campaign for his victory with the same amount of seriousness that it will employ for any other constituency and given the enthusiasm of the people, the change in the constituency, is inevitable.

Akhtar said the entire constituency has immense potential and it can be developed as a world class tourism destination but, unfortunately, due to the lack of proper representation and government indifference it could not get developed fully. He said PDP during its brief tenure took up major initiatives to give boost to the tourism in the area but those have been aborted by the present National Conference government. He said there is development crisis prevailing in the entire area and the people have to suffer on multiple fronts. “Entire road network in the area is in shambles and it is ironic that besides the important tourism area the government has failed to develop it over the years,” Akhtar said.

Referring to four laning of Narbal-Qamariwari road, which was started during the previous government, under the Prime Minister’s reconstruction programme, the PDP Chief Spokesperson said even eight years have passed now and it has not been completed yet.  He said PDP will focus on the development needs of the entire constituency and will develop it the way without interfering with its environs.  Akhtar said:   “Every area of Tangmarg offers huge potential for tourism and the PDP will harness it to the maximum with due care to the local environs that will ensure respectable remunerative jobs for the local youth.”

Seeking mandate of the people, Mohammad Abbas Wani in his address assured the people of Tangmarg that he will sincerely represent their aspirations and feeling in the democratic institutions of the state and will do everything possible to come up to their expectations unlike the present MLA of the area, Gh Hassan Mir, who instead of working for the benefit of the people got disgrace to the area by his nasty works. He said PDP is truly a people’s party and its leadership is sincere enough to get Kashmir out of the present mess.  “PDP during its brief tenure in the government scripted a new chapter of peace and development in the state and the party not only revived people’s trust in the democratic institutions, but set an example of honesty and transparency in the governance system,” he added.
