Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra has asked the State Government to come clean on the reports of backdoor and illegal appointments being made in various departments under political influence as it has started brewing unease and resentment among the educated unemployed youth.“Having lost ground and public support National Conference is now resorting to its traditional practice of backdoor appointments and corrupt practices by putting even the daily-wage and casual labor jobs on sale,” Karra said in a statement, issued to KNS here.

He said there are reports that in violation of recruitment procedure, large-scale appointments of casual laborers and daily-rated workers are forced on various government departments on pick-and-choose basis and proposed engagement of around 16000 Salesmen and Helpers for the new sale outlets of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department is a case in point.

Karra said there are reports that the officials of the CA&PD Department have been asked to issue engagement orders according to the list provided by two ministers of the coalition government whose agents have already started collecting money from the aspiring youth.“This government has adopted an anti-youth policy since it took over the reins of the state in 2009 and, unfortunately, it is still continuing with that,” he said and added that the NC-Congress coalition government is snatching rights of the youth who deserve engagement on the basis of merit and suitability. “The benefits and favors are being given to their favorites only,” he said adding the government sponsored agents are active on the ground collecting money from the gullible people on the name of government jobs ahead of assembly elections.

Karra said unemployment is a very sensitive issue in the State and a major concern of the society today and any attempt to fiddle with the standard recruitment process would have disastrous consequences. “Revival of the unholy practice of providing jobs on political and monetary considerations has started brewing fresh wave of anger among the youth and the mounting cynicism has the potential of refueling the resurgent wave of alienation.Karra said the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chief Secretary, J&K Govt and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K should take immediate cognizance of the reports of mass backdoor appointments being made by the present government ahead of Assembly elections and use their influence to stop this unholy practice immediately.
