17 killed in torrential rains in Sudan's capital

At least 17 people have been killed and over 3,000 homes destroyed in the Sudanese capital Khartoum by the rains and floods which hit wide areas in the African country during the past weeks, media reports said Tuesday."The rains and floods which recently hit wide areas led to the death of 17 people and collapse of 3,077 homes in Khartoum State, '' official SUNA news agency quoted the governor of the Khartoum state Abdul- Rahman Al-Khader as saying, according to Xinhua.The governor added that the work teams of the civil defence, the Sudanese Red Crescent, the emergency rooms and the coordinating body of the popular committees have listed all the people affected by the rains and floods and provided them with basic needs.

Torrential rains and floods have hit wide areas of the Sudanese state during the past three weeks which resulted in the destruction of great number of homes in addition to death cases and injuries among the citizens.Last year over one million people in Sudan had been affected by torrential rains and floods while about 50 people were killed.
