Stating that Congress is the party of caliber and discipline with no space for favoritism and partiality, veteran Congress leader and R&B minister Abdul Majeed Wani Monday stated that Congress will emerge as the single largest party in the state after the upcoming elections. According to the KNS correspondent, Wani on Monday inspected the progress of ongoing work at the rehabilitation centers constructed for the shop owners who were affected by the construction of Rambagh, Jahangir chowk flyover.

While talking to the media persons, Mr Wani remarked that since all the political parties here are contesting the polls alone for the upcoming elections for Legislative assembly, the cadre of the Congress is disciplined and has always remained on the forefront vis-à-vis the development of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that after the coming elections, Congress will emerge as the single largest party of the state. When asked about the reports that the state Congress chief Saif-ud-Din Soz  and the former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are  not contesting the elections, Wani stated that both are the senior leaders and it would be appropriate to ask such questions to the duo itself. “There are still three months remaining and let us see what the situation will remain. Our priority is to strengthen the ground for the party in the state,” Wani said.

He stated further that the state Congress will ask for votes from the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the bases of the performance and the past record. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are well aware of the fact that Congress has development and prosperity as the focal point of governance and we shall continue to tread this path.”While eulogizing the efforts of the former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mr Wani stated that he was the first person who offered his constituency to Mr. Azad. “He is the tallest leader of the state. He has taken such remarkable steps for the people that will be remembered till generations to come. His tenure as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir is being termed as the golden era even by his opponents,” Wani said, adding that Azad is the only leader who strived for the state’s well being both as the chief minister and as the union minister.

Mr Wani maintained further that as far as the chief minster from the Congress is concerned, it will be only announced after the party will register triumph in JK and that too by the high command. “We will abide by the decision that will be taken by the party leadership.”

Flanked by senior officials of ERA, R&B and other concerned departments, Wani took stock of the progress of work at rehabilitation centers constructed at Rambagh and Jahangir chowk. The minister was appraised by the officials about the status of the work and was informed that by next month, the centers will be most likely functional.Wani also stated that people must approach him directly if there are any reports of the deteriorated condition of the roads in the state and that speedy measures are being taken so that complaints about the same could be addressed on time.  (KNS)
