Punjab Public Works and Power Minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO, urged citizens of the state to participate in the upcoming panchayat elections, emphasizing that Indian democracy begins in villages. He said that the Mann government's primary objective is to empower villages, and to achieve this, Panchayats elections were being conducted without party symbols, ensuring the village Sarpanch represents the entire village, not just one party.
These sentiments were expressed by Cabinet Minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO while honouring the unanimously elected Sarpanchs and Panchs of Jandiala Guru Constituency. He announced that 30 Sarpanchs and 320 member panchs have been unanimously elected in this constituency. He also mentioned that the Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann had announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the unanimously selected panchayats, for the development of the villages, ensuring that basic development can take place.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, Cabinet Minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO appealed to the people to cooperate with the Election Commission to conduct the panchayat elections in a transparent and to fair manner. He expressed satisfaction that the people of 30 villages in Jandiala Constituency have unanimously elected their Panchayats.
He noted that in villages without factionalism, development works are carried out effectively, and such panchayats prioritize village development by securing additional funds from the government. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO hailed the historic unanimous elections of numerous panchayats across Punjab, a first for the state.
He criticized the opposition for politicizing the panchayat elections, emphasizing that the government's sole focus is on delivering essential services to the people of Punjab, including quality healthcare, education, and employment opportunities, as well as upgrading village infrastructure.
He also lambasted previous governments for their 70-year legacy of inaction, accusing them of prioritizing empty rhetoric over tangible progress and development in rural areas.
