Ganderbal Focuses on Economic Growth with One District-One Product Initiative

Wednesday saw Ganderbal's Deputy Commissioner (DC), Shyambir, leading a critical meeting to review and enhance the One District-One Product (ODOP) initiative, emphasizing on Willow wicker as the district's selected product for the District Export Hub program.

The session began with the Assistant Director of Handicrafts & Handloom presenting an overview on the advancements in the Willow wicker sector, including efforts towards branding, marketing, skill improvement of artisans, and increasing willow cultivation areas.Highlighting the significance of the ODOP initiative, DC Shyambir affirmed the administration's commitment to the comprehensive development of individuals engaged in the Willow wicker industry. 

Deliberations were held on establishing a Common Facility Centre under the Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) to cater to the needs of local industries. The DC urged departments to outline available services and schemes to aid Willow wicker artisans and discussed plans to expand cultivation, with 100 kanals already earmarked for this purpose.

The DC called for a collaborative effort, proposing joint inspections by the Assistant Director of Handicrafts & Handloom, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal, and Revenue department to evaluate the feasibility for willow cultivation on the designated land, expecting a detailed report subsequently.

The meeting was a congregation of various department officials, signaling a unified approach towards realizing economic empowerment and development in the district. Attendees included the Assistant Commissioner Revenue Ganderbal, the Chief Planning Officer, the General Manager of District Industries Centre, and other departmental representatives.
