Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: DC inaugurates month long Self-defence Training program for Girls at Kishtwar

Aimed at empowering the girls, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan campaign touched new heights in district Kishtwar as Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Devansh Yadav on Friday inaugurated a month-long self-defense training program for girls aged 14-18 years.

The training program, encompassing martial arts and Taekwondo has been hosted in the Sports Club of the CRPF 52nd Battalion HQ by the District Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports Department, under the auspices of District Administration Kishtwar, led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav.

The inaugural ceremony of the month-long training programme witnessed the presence of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav  as the chief guest and CO 52nd Bn CRPF Parma Shivan as the Guest of Honour.District Social Welfare Officer Zubair Ahmed Lone, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kharati Lal Sharma and Mohinder Kumar Second-in- Command 52nd Battalion CRPF were the special guests.

TSWO Kishtwar Rajesh Sharma, Cultural incharge Awani Sen, TSWO Paddar Chetna Sharma, Staff of OSC, DHEW and Kishtwar Academy for Martial Arts (KAMA) besides girl participants also remained present on the occasion.

The welcome address was delivered by DSWO Zubair Ahmed Lone, providing insights into various government-sponsored schemes for women and the girl child under the Social Welfare Department besides throwing light on the aims and objectives of the training programme.This training program, conducted under the flagship Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan, aims to holistically empower the girl child.

In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner extended best wishes to the trainees while emphasizing the importance of holistic preparation for overcoming life's challenges, encompassing both physical and mental readiness.

The Chief Guest also drew attention towards the inspiring journey of Paralympic Champion and Arjuna Awardee Sheetal Devi, who overcame numerous obstacles in life, serving as a beacon of inspiration for young girls. He further encouraged them to embrace Taekwondo not only as a passion but also as a potential pathway to a sports career, emphasizing its significance as both a form of self-defense and safety training.

CO 52nd Battalion CRPF, Parma Shivan, provided valuable insights on how the girls could effectively utilize the training, highlighting the crucial aspects of mental, moral, and social strengthening in addition to physical defense. He urged the participants to extract maximum benefits from the session, emphasizing the holistic development that could be gained through the comprehensive training program.

The inaugural ceremony also featured a cultural and Taekwondo performance by girl children. The event also featured speeches by Awani Sen and others besides TSWO Kishtwar Rajesh Sharma, who conveyed the vote of thanks.

The participating girls exhibited enthusiasm, reflecting the positive impact and importance of initiatives fostering the empowerment of the girl child in Kishtwar district. The month-long program promises to equip these young individuals with valuable skills for personal development and self-defense.
