Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today urged the Shri Akal Takhat Sahib to remain above politics to maintain the highest sanctity of this sacred institution and give its blessings to the newly constituted Haryana SGPC, besides revoking the ex-communication of three prominent Sikh leaders from that state. “Shri Akal Takhat Sahib is too high an institution to be seen to be political and it must remain above politics”, he remarked. In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder said, “with all humility I am saying that there was no violation of the ‘maryada’ in constituting the Haryana SGPC as it was very much the demand of the Sikhs there”.  He said, staying its constitution does not behove well for Shri Akal Takhat Sahib as its constitution has not violated any maryada. The former Chief Minister said, Shri Akal Takhat Sahib had done well by preventing the congregation of the Sikhs at Amritsar and Karnal as that would only have antagonised the community members against each other. “Like it stood up to the occasion in the interest of the community, it is widely hoped that it will not be seen to be influenced by anyone”, he observed.

He urged Shri Akal Takhat Sahib to shower its blessings on the newly constituted Haryana SGPC as it was the long pending wish and demand of the Sikhs there. “The Sikh community has felt relieved over the intervention of Shri Akal Takhat Sahib in pre-empting the confrontation among the members and now it expects to take it further by blessing the Haryana SGPC to carry forward its mandate”, he said.Capt Amarinder pointed out that the Haryana SGPC had the unanimous and widespread approval of the Sikhs in Punjab, Haryana, across India and abroad as well. Acknowledging the sentiments of the Sikhs across everywhere it would be in the highest interests of the community that the Shri Akal Takhat Sahib gives its blessing to the Haryana committee and also revokes the excommunication of three senior and prominent Sikh leaders who are the representatives of the Haryana Sikhs.
