In response to this alarming incident, the police registered a case under sections 465 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, addressing forgery and the defamation of an individual's reputation. Additionally, Sections 66C (identity theft) and 66E (privacy violation) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, were invoked, underscoring the gravity of the offence.
