Militants attack on SOG in Sopore:2 Cops killed 4 injured in Sopore, Bijbehara

Hizb claims responsibility for the Sopore attack

A police constable was killed while his four colleagues including one Inspector of Special Operation Group sustained injuries after militants lobbed a hand grenade and opened indiscriminate firing in Sopore town of Baramulla district.According to KNS correspondent, the firing took place during the intervening night of July 25 and July 26 when a police party of Special Operation Group (SOG) was trying to tackle some stone pelters at Chota Bazar near Jamia Masjid.At around 2 AM, the militants lobbed a hand grenade and opened fire on the SOG party resulting in the on spot death of a constable Mohammad Sayed of Milyal in Kupwara blet number 368/SPR. Four cops including one inspector Dilraj Singh, head constable Yusuful Umar, Constable Anaytullah and Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad sustained injuries in the attack.All the injured have shifted to sub district hospital Sopore and two out of them were later referred to B B Cant. Soon after the incident army, police and CRPF cordoned off the whole area and launched massive searches to nab the militants. According to KNS correspondent, tow youths Mudasir Yasin and Muzaffar Ahmad sustained minor injuries while police was chasing alleged stone pelters in the area.According to a police handout, a policeman was killed while four policemen were injured when militants lobbed a grenade and fired in discriminatorily on a police party who were tackling a stone pelting mob in Sopore.

“In the midnight miscreants pelted stones on police, CRPF bunkers at SBI and main Chowk Sopore. While the stone pelters were being tackled near Chota Bazar Sopore, militants among the stone pelters hurled a grenade and fired  upon police party resulting in on spot death of Constable Mohammad Syed Khan and injuries to 04 police personnel. All the injured police personnel were shifted to SDH Sopore and B.B.Cant Hospital Srinagar, where their condition is reported to be stable. The police party exhibited utmost restraint and did not retaliate as there was every apprehension of civilian casualties.”Meanwhile, Baleeg-u-Din, the operational spokesman of Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed the responsibility for the attack in Sopore. In a tele statement issued to KNS, Baleeg-u-Din said: “Our cadres carried out the attack in Sopore.”In South Kashmir Bijbehara town, unidentified gunmen fired at police constable Altaf Ahmad resident of Eidgah Srinagar while he was on his duty at Goriwan Chowk Bijbehara.  Altaf was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar but he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
