Grand cultural event organised to pay tributes to Padamshri Padma Sachdev

The District Administration Samba, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, organized a grand cultural event on December 13, 2023, to pay tribute to Padmashri Padma Sachdev Ji, the first modern woman poet of Dogri language and a prominent advocate of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.

The event, titled "Uttarvahini," took place at the Bari Brahmana, District Samba and witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, artists, writers, students, and media persons. Ms. Yasha Mudgal, the Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Cooperative Department, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The event began with a captivating talk show that shed light on the remarkable life and influential works of Padma Sachdev Ji. This was followed by mesmerizing live performances by local artists, who recited and sang some of the renowned poems and songs penned by Padma Sachdev Ji. 

The audience was spellbound by the soul-stirring verses that beautifully portrayed the rich culture and heritage of Dogri language and literature.Further, a thought-provoking panel discussion on the "Journey of Empowering Women in Transformation Group Communities" was conducted, which emphasized the achievements and challenges faced by women in various fields and sectors. 

The distinguished panelists shared their personal experiences and valuable insights on overcoming barriers and stereotypes to foster progress and empowerment for women in society. The event culminated with a captivating cultural performance by school girls, showcasing their exceptional talents and skills in diverse art forms. 

This performance served as a fitting tribute to the indomitable spirit and visionary ideals of Padma Sachdev Ji, who tirelessly advocated for the education and empowerment of girls and women through her writing and activism.

Expressing her thoughts on the occasion, Ms. Mudgal emphasized that true empowerment goes beyond mere equality. Empowerment lies in providing women the freedom to make their own decisions and choose their own paths. Padma Sachdev Ji is a shining example of empowerment, as she championed these principles throughout her life.
