Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal visits Paddy fields to motivate farmers not to burn stubble

Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka Dr. Senu Duggal herself visited different Paddy farms today to motivate the farmers not to burn stubble. During her visit she also appreciated some farmers who were busy in wheat sowing without burning paddy stubble by adopting in-situ method. Deputy Commissioner encouraged the farmers who were sowing wheat without burning the stubble with Happy Seeder and other machines in the fields. 

She said that such 'saviours of environment' are true Punjabi who managing stubble without harming our environment. She said that such farmers are a source of inspiration for others and the entire society has proud of them. During her visit, Deputy Commissioner also met those farmers who had made bales of straw and appealed them not to burn even minor waste left behind in field as satellite capture all such minor fire incidence also, which may lead to big trouble to such farmer.  

"Burning stubble also causes air pollution which is major health hazards in present days", she added. Meanwhile, she also visited the 8 MW biomass plant at Gaddadob and interacted with its officials. The plant aims to purchase 80 thousand tons of paddy stubble in the district and till now 55 thousand tons of stubble has been purchased. She told the officials that the rest of the stubble should be purchased as soon as possible. 

Officials of the biomass plant assured that they will soon raise the entire straw as per the target. On this occasion, a farmer had set fire to stubble near here, against which the Deputy Commissioner also instructed official to take action on the spot. On this occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Gurmeet Singh Cheema was also present with her along with other officials.
