Cop attacked, his scooter put on fire in Old city

A policeman was injured seriously after being thrashed by a group of youth at Nowhatta in Old City of Srinagar district. The youth also set ablze the policeman’s scooter.Reports reaching GNS said that a group of anti-Israeli protesters stopped the person on scooter and later checked his pockets. The group of youth during checking found the identity card of Police department from his wallet.

As such anti-Israeli protesters found police department card from his possession, the group of youth pounced upon him and beaten him ruthlessly, reports said, adding that the youth later torched his two-wheeler vehicle.Meanwhile, a police official confirmed the incident and identified  the injured person as special police officer (SPO) Mohammad Amin Sheikh, who was passing through the area when clashed were happening, was caught by protesters and beaten to pulp.Amin was not on duty and was in civvies when the incident took place, he said, adding that he is posted in Lal Bazar area.“A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation taken up:, the official said.
