On the occasion of Baisakhi, the union cabinet today passed much awaited Anand marriage act which was big demand of the sikh community not only residing in India but abroad also. Thanking Dr Manmohan Singh and the UPA chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi for accepting the bill in the same form as it was presented before the parliamentary standing committee, S Ravnit Bittoo, MP, (Sri Anandpur Sahib) said that he himself and S Tarlochan Singh Ex MP presented the bill before the standing committee and the union cabinet passed it without any amendments. This will not only benefit the sikh community living in India but also around 40 lacs Sikhs who are settled abroad. Bittoo further said that UPA government has done a lot for the sikh community making a sikh prime minister then the sikh army chief and now by passing this Anand marriage act, it has rewarded the sikh community again.
