On World Tourism Day, Director Rural Sanitation visits J&K’s historic ‘Chhota Kashi’

On World Tourism Day, Director Rural Sanitation, J&K, Charandeep Singh undertook a significant visit to the historic town of Purmandal in Samba district and led a sanitation drive with PRIs, volunteers, locals, and officials on the banks of river Gupt Ganga at village Purmandal.

This visit was not only a celebration of the state's rich cultural and natural heritage but also an opportunity to explore ways to promote sustainable tourism in the region, as Purmandal has been often referred to as 'Mini or Chhota Kashi' due to its religious and historical significance.

Block Development Chairperson,  Arshad Begum, Sarpanches of Purmandal, Deon, Khara, Upper and Upper Madana and Block Development Officers (BDOs) from Purmandal, Sumb, Nud, Vijaypur and Ramgarh welcomed the Director.

The Director's visit aimed to highlight the importance of sustainable sanitation around the historic place while emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness for the preservation of its pristine beauty, cultural heritage, and to ensure clean banks of river Gupt Ganga.

During his visit, Charandeep Singh interacted with local stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to gain insights into the unique heritage, traditions, and cultural assets of Purmandal. He listened keenly to their suggestions and concerns, fostering a collaborative approach to the sustainable sanitation in the area.

On the occasion, the Director felicitated Bhishan Das- the famous person known for his unwavering commitment to keep the Temple surroundings clean voluntarily from more than the last 15-years.T-Shirts, Caps and Certificates were distributed among the Swachtagarhi, Students who performed Nukad Natak, participated in the painting competition and delivered speeches on sanitation.

In his remarks,  Charandeep Singh said, "Purmandal is a jewel in the crown of J&K’s tourism potential. We must work together to preserve its natural beauty and historical importance while promoting sustainable tourism practices. Cleanliness and sanitation are integral to this effort, and we are committed to ensuring a Swachh Bharat and a Swachh Purmandal."

The Director also discussed various initiatives with Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Samba  Sidharth Dhiman, Deputy Director Rural Sanitation, Jammu,  Sanna Khan, local BDOs and local PRIs, and discussed plans for further improvements in waste management and cleanliness, aligning them with the 'Swachh Bharat Mission’.
