Phone-a-Farmer: Government officials/employees will call farmers and appeal them not to burn stubble

In order to motivate the farmers of Fazalka district not to burn stubble, officials and employees of various departments of the district will call the farmers and appeal them not to burn stubble. This information was shared by the Deputy Commissioner , Dr. Senu Duggal. She has appealed to other dignitaries of the society and those farmers who have not been burning the stubble for the past several years to share their experiences with other farmers on how they can sow wheat without burning the stubble.

The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the farmers of the district to refrain from setting fire for the sake of environmental protection and the health of our soil. Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal said that the district administration established land banks for storing stubble for cattle ponds (gaushala) etc.

The Deputy Commissioner said that paddy stubble is used as fodder in gaushala. This arrangement has been made due to lack of space to store stubble with cattle  ponds run by NGOs. She said that for this reason, the Agriculture Department has been instructed to give information in this regard to the gaushalas and farmers. Farmers can also store their stubble in this land bank or leave it here.

Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture to organize as many camps as possible in the villages to make gardeners aware of the use of stubbel for mulching in gardens. She said that the Panchayats which will prevent the incidents of fire in the villages, maximum works will be done under MGNREGA scheme in those villages.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Food Supply Department to sensitize the depot holders and the beneficiaries of the  Scheme that no one should set the straw on fire. The Deputy Commissioner also held a meeting with the Patwaris and instructed them to sensitize the farmers for the proper paddy stubble management.

SP Mr. Mohanlal, SDM Mr. Ravinder Singh Arora, DDPO Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, DFSC Mr. Himansu Kukkar, Chief Agriculture Officer Mr. Gurmeet Singh Cheema, Executive Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board Mr. Daljit Singh were also present in the meeting.
