Buhe Bariyan Movie Review

Story And Screenplay

In Buhe Bariyan, a group of women named Bhuro (Nirmal Rishi) and gang battle patriarchy and traditional norms. The gang's ladies get separated from their husbands, construct their own home (Chamba) and work at different jobs to support themselves to live a life of dignity and respect. To counter the male dominating society Bhuro decides to fight a panchayat election against them. Prem Kaur (Neeru Bajwa), a new police officer in town, plays a special link in connecting the story. The movie explores whether they can succeed in winning the election and reversing the dominant mindset of the patriarchal society or not.

Though the screenplay was passable, there were times when it appeared that the movie had been cut in various places and its threads were missing, overall it provided us with a positive cinematic experience.

Acting & Dialogues

Neeru Bajwa and Nirmal Rishi undoubtedly win the hearts once again with their stellar act. We never desired for Neeru Bajwa to leave the screen. Nirmal Rishi clicks the right string at various moments of the film which was undeniably amazing. You couldn't help but applaud a moment of the film when the two engage in an argument giving epic one liner replies to each other which are very well scripted and will catch your your attention and holds the potential to be remembered for a long time.

Rubina Bajwa, Jatinder Kaur, Simran Chahal, Seema Kaushal, Rupinder Rupi, Gurpreet Bhangu, Baljinder Kaur, Dharminder Kaur and Anita Meet made significant appearances throughout the movie which are worth appreciating. The Bhuro gang was simply amazing.

It is noteworthy that Malkeet Rauni, Prakash Gadhu, Sukhwinder Raj, and Deepak Niaz managed to carve a distinct and memorable space for themselves through their outstanding performances in a movie teemed with female actors. A special mention should go to Malkeet Rauni and Deepak Niaz, whose excellent performances at various moments in the movie proved their significance.

The music part of the film has its own different vibe from each song of the film’s soundtrack. With the fusion of traditional style and contemporary in some songs, it has directly touched the audience's hearts. The title track Buhe Bariyan, Baagi, Mutiyaran and Chimta were already released before the release and hooked everyone with its catchy music. The inclusion of two additional songs that were unreleased before were perfectly placed in the film.

Team 5 Dariya gives 4.5 stars to Buhe Bariyan.

Half a star is snipped due to an unusual screenplay which several times made us feel that some scenes have been trimmed in the film.
