Mastaney Movie Review

Story & Screenplay

The story revolves around the historical tale of the Sikhs who attacked Nadar Shah and his unbeatable army when they invaded Delhi. Nadar Shah blames Zakaria Khan for the attack, who denies to take the blame and shifts the attack responsibility on Sikhs. Zakaria is then ordered to present the Sikhs in front of Nadar, so in order to do so he hires five ordinary men to play Sikh Rebellions who are unaware about Sikhs but one of them, Gurpreet Ghuggi’s character knows and teaches them everything. With time, what they learn and how they fight is all shown in the film.

With an extremely eye capturing and engaging screenplay, each and everything seemed to be on point. The glimpses of history of Sikhs shown in between the film worked as a cherry to pie which looked great and also enhanced the charm of the film.

Acting & Dialogues

The characters of all the Sikh Rebellions (Tarsem Jassar, Gurpreet Ghiggi, Karamjit Anmol, Honey Mattu & Baninder Bunny) are the centre of attraction who have not just shown their versatility but have also proved their artistry by giving their best performances till date. The way they have adapted their character with seriousness from a common man to a courageous Sikh over the period of time is appreciable and can be clearly witnessed with the change of emotions, personality and attitude they carry throughout. Their focused stare and body language were undeniably signs of their extraordinary conversion to Sikhs.

Rahul Dev, Avtar Gill, and Arif Zakaria have impeccably embodied their roles as Mughal emperors and their confidants. Particular acknowledgment goes to Rahul Dev, who delivered a fiercely captivating performance as Nadar Shah. Simi Chahal also made a significant contribution with her commendable portrayal.

The classic dialogues and one liners can be labelled as the USP of the film which were perfectly stated as per the situations. They have worked as the most essential part in making the roles memorable.

Background Score & Music

The background score of the film is the ultimate component that has added a flavour throughout the film. It has been flawlessly handled while enhancing the real essence of the scenes which will surely give you goosebumps after listening. Daler Mehndi's recitation in his powerful and impactful voice at a few moments is quite enough to indulge and connect you to the drama while giving you a spine chilling experience.

The songs have perfectly been composed and fitted in the film which have been a helping hand in connecting the story and defining the characters.

Direction & DOP

The visual extravaganza of the film has captured everyone’s eyeballs with its breath-taking execution as it has added a sense of realism to the presentation giving an incredible cinematic experience which has never been seen in any Punjabi film till date. The direction is at its best and Sharan Art has done an exemplary job in adding life to his vision. The DOP Jayepe Singh has done an impeccable work in capturing the essence of beauty of every scene.

The traditional costumes, picturesque locations and set designing and use of proper language and accent, everything is just on its level best as no compromise has been done in any term in order to deliver a perfect flick.

Conclusion

Mastaney is not just a film but a rich history which has been presented as an emotion of the Sikh community. This incredible presentation will always be remembered as one of the best periodic drama which will stay in hearts, minds and souls of everyone. We can undoubtedly say that it has not only lived up to but is way beyond the expectations.
