77th Independence Day : 84 Bn CRPF honours Veer Nari & gallant CRPF personnel at Ramban

Commandant 84 Bn CRPF, N Ranbir Singh, during a function organized at Dett Hq Boom Ramban, felicitated Veer Nari Rubina Begum and HC/GD Pawan Kumar by presenting shawls and mementos.

On 02 Feb 2008, in the Maoist affected state of Chhattisgarh, when a column of 63 Bn CRPF personnel, while falling back, after a major operation, in the hinterlands of Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh, were ambushed by a strong party of armed Maoists.

The CRPF party of 63 Bn retaliated effectively and tactically. In the process, an intense encounter took place. The CRPF team tactically split into two parties and attacked the Maoists’ position, forcing the Maoists to flee. Few Maoists were killed and other few sustained injuries.

In the encounter, Ct/Driver Mustaq Ahmed of 63 Bn, resident of Maitra, Ramban, J&K, fought valiantly and made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Ct/Driver Mustaq Ahmed is survived by his wife Smt Rubina Begum and two sons.

In another operation against the Maoists in the highly affected District of Sukma Chhattisgarh, on 24 Jun 2006, a Special Commando Team of 119 Bn CRPF launched an Int based offensive against a team of Maoists, led by Zonal Commander Ayatu in the village Toyapara, Dornapal, Sukma.

When the CRPF team cordoned the village, the Maoists attacked the CRPF party. The CRPF party launched an immediate intensive retaliatory offence. During the close combat, Ct/GD Pawan Kumar (now HC/GD) and his buddy took a well-armed group of Maoists, head on and managed to kill 04 hard core Maoists, including the Zonal Commander.

Huge cache of Arms, Amns, Explosives and incriminating items were recovered. 06 injured Maoists were also apprehended. For his exemplary act of valour, Ct/GD Pawan Kumar was awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry during 2009.

While speaking at the function, he also paid tributes to the heroes of the freedom struggle and appealed to all to live up to their vision of a free, democratic and modern India. During the day, the National Tricolor was hoisted at the Quarter Guard and sweets were distributed. A colorful cultural evening was also organized in which nearly 300 Unit personnel participated.
