Partition Horrors Remembrance Day observed by JKAACL

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is an annual national memorial day observed on 14 August in India, commemorating the victims and sufferings of people during the 1947 partition of India. It was first observed in 2021, after an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The day remembers the sufferings of many Indians during the partition. Several families were displaced and many lost their lives in the partition. It aims to remind Indians the need to remove social divisions, disharmony and to further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment.

J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Jammu Centre, organized one Day Seminar on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Major General S.K. Sharma (AVSM) was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Ashwani Khajuria, Administrator associated Hospitals, Jammu was Guest of Honour.

At the outset, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Bharat Singh Manhas welcomed all the dignitaries. He said that this programme is being organised to showcase the sufferings of partition affected people of our country. 

He said that on this Day we want to remind ourselves of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and Human empowerment.After this Dr. Ajay Sharma, Director Academics Jammu Kashmir Study Centre briefed about the pain of partition in J&K particularly in Rajouri. 

Ajay Bharti, General Secretary Sanskar Bharti, J&K Ladakh  shared his views about partition which he got from various people he met, who had witnessed the terror of partition.  Ashok Khajuria, Leader POJK displaced community said that this day has to be remembered so that this would not happen again.

In the end Mandeep Singh and Group presented a patriotic dance performance.Vote of thanks was presented by  Shruti Awasthi, regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Jammu. 

She said there is a need to rethink on this day that the people who suffered the terror of partition in the neighbouring Country are still in miserable condition and how the people here came out of those.The proceedings of the programme were ably  conducted by Kusum Tickoo.
