Mahilpur-Jejon road and Mahilpur-Phagwara road to be built at a cost of ₹25 crores: Harbhajan Singh ETO

Public Works Minister started the construction work of both the roads in the presence of Deputy Speaker PVS

Public Works and Power Minister Punjab Harbhajan Singh ETO on Tuesday inaugurated two road projects in Mahilpur to be constructed at a cost of about Rs 25 crore, in the presence of Deputy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rouri. These projects include Mahilpur-Jejon road to be constructed at a cost of Rs 13.05 crore, and Mahilpur-Phagwara road to be constructed at a cost of Rs 11.25 crore.

On this occasion, Public Works Minister said that the Mahilpur-Jejon road connects Punjab to Himachal Pradesh but the condition of this important route was not in shape as its last repair was done in May 2015. He informed that the work for strengthening this 15.12 km long road will be completed soon. 

He told that after the agency hired for this project would also take care of its maintenance for next 5 years. Divulging further, the PWD minister said that the road connecting Mahilpur with Phagwara was also last repaired in May 2015. 

He said that the construction work of this 14.34 kilometer long road would also be completed in time and its maintenance would also be ensured by the constructing company for next 5 years. Meanwhile, he also announced widening of the roads from Garhshankar to Nangal and Garhshankar to Nawanshahar, to 33 feet wide.

Highlighting the achievements of the state in the field of Power, Harbhajan Singh ETO said that 90% consumers of Punjab are getting zero electricity bill due to free 600 units of electricity being provided to every section of society. He said that Pachhwara coal mine, which was closed since 2015, is operational once again due to concrete efforts of chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. 

He said that the state is getting an annual income of Rs 1500 crores from this mine. He said that this is the reason that state has a 45-day coal reserve in its thermal plants. 

He said that within a span of just one and a quarter years, the Punjab government headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has brought the progress of Punjab back on track. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Jai Krishan Singh Rouri thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO for the initiating development works in Garhshankar assembly and Chabbewal. 

He said that the construction work of various roads connecting Garhshankar Vidhan Sabha constituency is already going on war footing, benefiting the residents of the area. He said that the construction work of roads and bridges which were damaged due to floods in village Halluwal and other areas falling under Chabbewal Vidhan Sabha, will also be started soon.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, and Chairman, Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development & Finance Corporation Harminder Singh Sandhu were also present on this occasion.
