Ghaggar Breach Plugged, DC Ashika Jain visits the site of Dehar, Alamgir, Tiwana Link embankment

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the 4500 feet wide breach of the Ghaggar at Dehar, Alamgir and Tiwana link embankment has been plugged.Inspecting the ongoing repair  work to increase the height of the  breached embankment to its earlier height, she said that the job was a tedious one as the level of the breached surface was too deep to fill. 

It absorbed lakhs of sand bags besides a period of week to plug it by working round the clock. Now, the work on increasing it's height to earlier level is going on war footing. ADC (Rural Development) Amit Bambi was also present with her on this occasion.

She said that to protect the earthen embankment from direct collision, 3 to 4 lakh sand bags will be placed inside it so that the strong revetment can be made. She also appreciated Drainage Department Executive Engineer Rajat Grover and SDM Derabassi Himanshu Gupta for carrying out the work with determination.

Responding to the demand of villagers for making embankment from Tiwana to Khajoor Mandi and Sadhanpur, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that a proposal has already been sent to the government and the work will be started as soon as the approval is received.

Expressing concern over the damage to agriculture lands and crops due to Ghaggar breach, she assured the affected farmers that their damage will be assessed next week and further action will be taken after preparing an assessment report. 

She said that the district administration and the Punjab government are firmly stood by the farmers in this difficult time and are committed to compensate for their losses.
