Contractors accuse IFCD employees of bribery

Scores of contractors from Irrigation and Flood control pision Sopore Saturday staged a protest alleging that some employees working on different posts in the pision are demanding bribe from them for their completed works.Reports said that scores of contractors assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar and shouted slogans against some officials of the Irrigation and Flood control pision Sopore.“There is a clerk Akhtar Hussain Sofi who is acting just like Executive Engineer. He is as stationary as Sun in the department and never have been transferred from past 7 years. Another employee Ayoub Akhoon who is a supervisor has backing of employee’s leader Abdul Qayoom Wani. Last time his transfer was stopped by Wani after he used his influence,” Muhmmad Shafi, a protestor told CNS adding that both these employees are operating as Mafia dons and are demanding hefty sums from contractors.

The protestors demanded immediate action against the duo and appealed to the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to restore some order in the pision by transferring them.Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Mir Javid Jaffer told CNS that he has already constituted a committee to report on the conduct of these two employees. “I will definitely take action against these employees if committee recommends me to do so,” he said.Chairman EJAC Abdul Qayoom Wani vehemently denied these allegations and said that he never supports any corrupt official. “Any corrupt official should be hanged and declared dead-wood. I don’t even know the names of these two accused employees,” he told CNS.
