State government in a hands-on role to mitigate natural calamity: Rohit Thakur

Education Minister, Rohit Thakur while presiding over the review meeting on loss of life and property due to heavy rains in Shimla district here today said that the government stands with the people of the state in this hour of crisis. Government is playing a hands-on role to provide all possible help to the affected people and efforts are being made to normalize the situation.

Giving details about the situation in district Shimla, Rohit Thakur said that incidents of landslides, falling of trees, collapse of houses and damage to vehicles have been reported at various places in the district due to heavy rains from the last five days. He directed the district administration to restore basic amenities soon.

He directed Deputy Commissioner Shimla to assess the damage caused in the district so that relief and rescue operations could be completed at the earliest. He also directed Superintendent of Police Shimla to provide help to the people. 

He said that all arrangements should be further strengthened to make the upcoming apple season successful. The Education Minister also directed to restore all the roads in the district, especially the national highways and main district roads soon. 

He asked for speedy repair of disrupted water supply schemes and power lines. He appealed people not to go near rivers, drains and other water bodies and to cooperate with the district administration in this time of crisis and follow the guidelines, weather and other related warnings issued by the administration. He has appealed to the people to avoid travelling except in emergency cases.

Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Aditya Negi, Superintendent Police, Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi, State Geologist, Puneet Guleria, Chief Engineer (Shimla Zone) Jal Shakti Vibhag, Anju Sharma, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Chief Engineer, Rakesh Thakur, Superintending Engineer Public Works Department, Ajay Soni and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
