Punjab Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal Visit River Ravi To Access Situation And Relief Operations

Following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding the immediate assessment of the situation of the flood affected areas of the state in the wake of heavy rains in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, the cabinet minister Mr Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal visited various flood affected areas and assess river  Ravi water level to take stock of the situation and relief activities.

Mr. Dhaliwal said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the ministers, MLAs and officials of the state to be ready to deal with any situation arising due to heavy rain, and the Punjab government has made adequate arrangements in this regard.

The cabinet minister came to Ghonewal, the last village of Amritsar district on the banks of the Ravi river, to take stock of the water level of the river and the measures to be taken regarding possible floods.  He said that

2 lakh cusec of water was released in the Ujj river this morning. The water of the Ujj river has entered the Ravi near Makura Patan.  After that the water level in Ravi river has increased after getting water from Ujj river in Ravi.  In this case, going to the bank of Ravi river can prove dangerous.

He has appealed to the residents living around the Ravi River to move to safer places away from the River.  Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Amit Talwar has asked the district administration officials and villagers adjacent to Ravi to be alert and contact the district level control room on 01832229125 in case of any flood-like situation.

He said that there is no danger at present, but there is a need to be vigilant.  He said that we are ready to deal with any situation.  SDM S Arvinderpal Singh and other officers were also present on this occasion.
