DC Ashika Jain exhorts Bankers and officials to sensitise masses to avail maximum benefit of PMJJBY and PMSBY Schemes

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain today appealed people of the district to register themselves under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by contacting their banks as the period of availing the benefits of this plan has now been extended till July 31.
She said that any bank account holder who is in the age group of 18 to 70 years and 18 to 50 years is eligible for the risk cover of Rs two lakh on paying a fixed but meagre amount of premium.
Holding a meeting of bankers and various departments to boost the saturation campaign under PMJJBY and PMSBY, today, at DAC meeting hall, she said that according to the instructions of the Directorate of Institutional Finance and Banking of the Punjab Government the benefit should be extended to all eligible general public and poor workers of the district.
She said that under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, any person in the age group of 18-50 years, can get a risk cover of Rs 2 lakh by paying a premium of Rs 436 per annum while under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, any person in the age group of 18-70 years can get him/her inured at a premium of Rs 20 per annum.
PMSBY provides an accidental risk cover of Rs 2 lakh, in case of death and Rs 1 lakh, in case of partial disability. Both risk covers can be availed consecutively, by a premium of Rs 456 , she added. To get the benefit, one can give a consent form to his/her bank and the premium amount to be deducted from the account of the holder.
She said that the members of self-help groups, beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Beneficiaries, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and gramin), MGNREGA workers, Anganwadi workers, street vendors, Sanitation and Health workers etc. cab be enrolled under the both schemes after sensitising them.
She asked the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amit Bamby, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad, to make the MNREGA workers, MNREGA staff, panchayats etc. of the villages aware and encourage them to become members of the scheme.
The Chief Agriculture Officer was asked to inform the farmers about the benefits of this scheme and get them registered. The District Program Officer asked to apprise Anganwadi workers and women beneficiaries associated with Anganwadi Centers of the benefits of the scheme, District Education Officer for mid-day meal workers, GM District Industries Centre, Deputy Director (Factories), Assistant Labour Commissioner, Environmental Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board for factories and Industries' labour and workers. Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies was asked to get enroll the members and staff associated with the Cooperative Societies of the district by explaining the benefits of this scheme.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of the private sector banks, the deputy commissioner said that it is their prime duty to deliver these pro-people schemes of the government to the account holders.
She also asked the Lead Bank Manager MK Bharadwaj to arrange maximum awareness at every bank level of the district to make the potential beneficiaries more aware of these two schemes and their benefits.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the eligible beneficiaries of the district to immediately contact their nearest bank branch where they have bank accounts to take advantage of it.
